In the Chinitas cafe / Paquiro said to his brother: / “I’m braver than you, / more than a bullfighter and more than a gypsy.” Thus begins the poem that Federico García Lorca dedicated to the so-called “cathedral of cante jondo”, the old Café de Chinitas, which closed its doors in 1937. In 1960, the flamenco singer Antonio Molina was at the top of his career and wanted to pay tribute to his native Malaga and to the mythical flamenco temple that has now disappeared, with this film in which the artist also narrated his own story, from his humble origins as a fisherman to becoming a flamenco figure.
The Plaza de la Constitución and the Chinitas passage itself were witnesses to that film, in which the main character also appears on the seashore taking out the codend, a fishing gear that has now disappeared.
